Star trek 2 the wrath of khan director edition

Scenes added in this edition include: Bones telling Kirk that his gift of glasses are "for your eyes" while in Kirk's apartment early in the film. An extended scene during Kirk's tour of engineering where he has a bit of fun with a young ensign who we'll learn is Scotty's nephew. Another extended scene takes place when Kirk shows Bones and Spock the Genesis video. Bones makes a short speech about the morality of Genesis being "in the right hands".

A scene in the Regula 1 station is extended where the scientists decide to hide where Reliant won't find them. The death of the young ensign is extended as well as a shot of Kirk leaving sickbay while telling Bones is that the only reason they're alive is because he knows more about starships than Khan.

There's a quick addition as Kirk, Spock, and Saavik are climbing up the Jeffries Tube after their return from the Genesis cave. Kirk mentions how that boy referring to David is his son, to which Spock replies "Fascinating". The biggest change here is definitely the colors. But the uniforms aren't the only improvement as flesh tones appear more natural, and detail is generally fine.

Dialog is limited to the center channel and some moments can sound a little bit raspy due to its age, but the surrounds are actually put to good use at times.

One example is in the early scene where Kirk and Bones enjoy some Romulan Ale in front of a fire, and you can here the discrete sound of the fire crackling in your right front channel. The sub gets some action in the form of the deep rumbling that the starships make in the background as well as during the final duel in the nebula. Meyer's commentary is excellent and packed full of detail including some humorous stories from the set and a little bit of background on himself.

He does actually address the huge plot hole in the movie where Chekov wasn't introduced into the series until a year after the Khan episode, yet somehow remembers the whole event. He talks about how this extended cut is closer to his cut of the film, and talks about working with the various actors. It's an excellent commentary track that has stuff for hardcore Trekkers as well as casual fans. Those who are very familiar with the film series will find some of the stories from the set a lot a fun, as they really haven't been heard before while others will probably enjoy hearing a director who was "alien" to the whole Star Trek mythos talking about making a film in the extremely popular universe.

The text commentary works as a subtitle track and is written by Trek expert Michael Okuda. Aside from co-authoring The Star Trek Encyclopedia , he was also a pivotal part of the Star Trek: The Next Generation series and any hard-core TNG fan would know part of his contribution to that series was the design of the computer displays on the Enterprise D.

Super hardcore Trekkers would see a lot of familiar information in this track, as a lot of it has been revealed elsewhere, but the average viewer would definitely find it interesting as Okuda reveals all sorts of little details about the movie, including things so small as a "No Smoking" sign that was removed from the bridge of the Enterprise.

Moving on to disc two we find a load of extras beginning with "The Captain's Log". This is a nearly half-hour documentary with brand-new interviews with William Shatner, Harve Bennett, Leonard Nimoy, Nicholas Meyer, and Ricardo Montalban where the five of them share their memories of the development and making of what will become the most popular of all nine Star Trek films.

The first four are actually a bit stiff in their recollections, but Montalban is quite fun to listen to as he describes trying to come down from Fantasy Island to bring back Khan. Once again featuring all-new interviews, the featurette takes a look at the design of the ship models, the CGI effects for the Genesis video, Khan's "bugs", and more. Those three new documentaries are presented in anamorphic widescreen video. Total run time is about ten minutes. Generations First Contact Insurrection Nemesis.
